Why this Message

November 2015

After having a near fatal Heart Attack 3yrs ago while I was alone caring for my 18 month old Granddaughter, I realised then children as young as Sienna should learn how to ‘Raise the alarm in an Emergency’ especially if they are the only one around to help a loved one at that crucial time. Lots of Grandparents care for their young these days with many having health issues like I have, so that’s the reason why I created my DR’S ABC -Learning for Life- Programs. These programs have been created to help everyone stay safe in an emergency situation.

I’d been suffering intense heartburn for years, I found it hard to catch my breath sometimes, and my memory was bad, with very restless legs each night and would wake with numb fingers in the mornings. I worried about it constantly, but I kept it to myself and never alerted anyone, as I didn’t want my loved ones to worry about me, they were having enough health and financial problems themselves. It wasn’t until that awful day that I decided to do something about it. It really frightened me, but the look on Sienna’s face and the way she cried out “Nanny! Nanny!” was when I realised I had something a lot worse than just indigestion. Hopefully she may not remember it now, but I’ll never forget that day.

Within minutes I rang my Doctor who referred me to a good Heart Specialist, he said I’d been having Angina attacks. A short time later I was laying on an operating table, having an Angiogram. It only took an hour, and was left with a tiny little scar on my wrist. I was awake through the procedure but there was no pain at all, and I was able to watch the operation happen on the screen next to me. There it was my Right Coronary Artery (RCA) was 99% blocked. My Surgeon said I was only days away from having a heart attack. I went numb after hearing this and my only thoughts were my loving family and friends. Plus I still shudder thinking how I could have died at home with Sienna there helpless, scared and with no one around for her.

I have a Stent in my RCA now and I believe Sienna has saved my life. She made me realise how important it is that everyone, from a very young age, should learn how to raise the alarm in an emergency. Singing our songs will help everyone memorise CPR steps very easily. Also both our songs are in the correct rhythm for performing CPR. The DR’S ABC –Learning for Life- Books are a great resource for learning, and reviewing CPR and much, much more.

By the age of 4 Sienna knew all the words to the first DR’S ABC song. Also she knew how to navigate my mobile phone to make an emergency call. We must prepare young children now, to be confident and not afraid to act in an emergency situation for the future. A child's quick actions in an emergency could save your life one day.
DR'S ABC Programs are a simple and helpful guide only. It is recommended everyone do a First Aid Course that includes CPR through a School or another Accredited Association.

Imagine how wonderful it will be when

EVERYONE CAN SAVE A LIFE
